Lee Fowler sets the example......."Today's game between New Windsor and Manor Colts (U12) was notable for the excellent attitude of the players and spectators and the very good football played by both sides, however I felt that the approach of Lee Fowler, the Manor Colts manager, was so outstanding that it deserves special mention. Lee was very active before the game, coaching his team about defending at corners. New Windsor only had 10 players to start so Lee Fowler told me that his team would only play with ten, although he had eleven with him, "to make things fair". Early in the second half, with the score NW 3 MC 1, a New Windsor player jumped and fell awkwardly on his foot and he was taken off in some pain. Lee Fowler promptly made a substitution, taking off two of his players and bringing on one "because they have only nine". After the game I told him that he was a remarkable man who clearly cares more for sportsmanship than the result. I think he is also a very rare animal and I hope that the League can do something to ensure that he stays active in the game, especially where young players are involved. Best wishes, Ed Godolpin....." |
